We’re answering the call—will you answer ours?

Every day, we answer calls from women in survival mode. Women who are trapped in a cycle of abuse because they have nowhere to flee and no resources. Women who’ve left their abusers, but who are now living in their cars, often with their kids, keeping their families together with incredible resilience and fortitude. We work at the intersection of violence and homelessness and our phones are ringing nonstop. There’s an overwhelming and unmet need across Oregon for safe, stable housing for people fleeing abusive situations. Currently, Multnomah County only has three confidential shelters for survivors—nowhere near enough. And shelters are only emergency measures, not long-term solutions.

Housing is the basic foundation for all life-changing work: one can’t be a better parent, get a better job, or heal from trauma without the stability and security of a safe place to sleep.

Using a Housing First model, we prioritize stabilizing survivors and their kids in community so they can heal and re-establish their lives. We currently manage three homes with 22 beds. In these homes, which we call Communities of Restoration and Healing (CoRH), survivors are welcomed no matter their credit or eviction histories and receive wraparound services like therapy, financial literacy classes, and assistance navigating the justice system. This summer, we’re increasing housing for survivors by building out two additional homes in Portland and we need your help! The houses need a lot of work before we can welcome families, from washers and dryers to drywall and kitchen tables. This month, we’re asking our community to give where you live to help us build out two new houses for the women and kids on our waiting list. Your donation will transform these houses into homes where survivors can heal.If you want to help survivors at risk of homelessness right here in Portland, please contribute what you can before May 31st. Any amount you can spare we’ll put to work right away.
