Domestic Violence Advocate/Gateway Navigator

Key responsibilities
Strength-Based, Trauma Informed Service - Deliverables/outcomes:
Work with the survivor to determine needs using a holistic, strengths-based approach.
Coordinate engagement with other domestic violence, mental health, anti-poverty, and legal service providers at the directive of the survivor.
Provide co-advocacy services at the directive of the survivor, offering support, information, referrals, and individualized safety planning.
Meet with participants at YWCA office locations and/or off-site following safety planning best practices.
Promote healthy relationships and maintain appropriate boundaries.
Be willing to be uncomfortable and sit with survivors through big emotions without trying to manage their emotions or solve all their problems.
Provide excellent, responsive, and flexible survivor-led service to all participants.
Responsive and Strategic Housing Support - Deliverables/outcomes:
Use a “housing-first” approach to support survivors of domestic violence to safely attain or retain safe housing, frequently in emergency situations. This may include, but is not limited to, landlord negotiation/mediation, and attendance at formal or informal hearings.
Serve clients consistently and proactively through referrals, waitlists, and similar county-wide forums.
Apply knowledge of Fair Housing and VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) protections and/or landlord/tenant laws and contextualize the survivor’s experience while maintaining confidentiality.
Complete all data entry, filing, and eligibility requirement tasks in a timely manner. Such activities require adherence to federal, state, and local laws and contract requirements while working within multiple agency systems. All work must be carried out while maintaining absolute client confidentiality.
Participatory Teamwork and Responsible Representation - Deliverables/outcomes:
Engage consistently in anti-racism practices and approaches with internal and external work based on a deep understanding of historical and present-day structural racism.
Responsibly represent the program, YWCA, and Gateway Center and act as a team member with other agencies housed at the Gateway Center.
Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with providers of housing in the Greater Portland area, the domestic violence services team, and the YWCA as a whole.
Coordinate engagement with other domestic violence, mental health, anti-poverty, and legal service providers at the directive of the survivor.
Attend and meaningfully participate in all scheduled meetings with department, agency, and external partner teams.
Meet all contractually required domestic violence trainings plus 12 annual hours of YWCA Social Justice Training annually; commit to ongoing participation in continuing education including DV and Fair Housing legal changes.

Demonstrated ability to self-manage workload priorities and calendar while being responsive to survivor needs and priorities. High self-motivation is key.

Position Overview

The YWCA of Greater Portland provides shared housing to domestic violence survivors through our Communities of Restoration and Healing (CORH). In this role, you will be a certified Peer Support Advocate helping survivors on your case load with healing, recovery, and self sufficiency. You will contribute significantly to the YWCA’s mission by using your own experience to walk with program participants as they work to rebuild their lives.
*To be a certified Peer Wellness Specialist in Oregon (certification can be obtained upon hire), you must self-identify as:
At least 18 years of age;

o A current or former mental health services consumer;

Model wellness and self-determination for all residents based on your own experiences and demonstrated by your peer support specialist training.
Provide appropriate referrals to resources, accompany to court, trainings, employment opportunities and mental health appointments as needed.
Work with residents to identify and obtain specific personal goals including safety planning, stabilization, job placement, healing, and being a part of their community.
Create Peer-Assisted Wellness Plans tailored to the specific needs of individual CORH residents.

Therapeutic Services Intern

Position Overview:
Are you passionate about working with trauma survivors, specifically survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence? Are you interested in providing client-centered, trauma-informed clinical assessment, psychotherapy, and case management to vulnerable members of our community? Our clinical program provides outpatient mental health services as part of the Survivor Services program of the YWCA of Greater Portland. It is a clinical program designed to provide individual and group psychotherapy services to adult survivors who are participants in our program. We seek to expand health services for survivors, and to provide social work students with highly clinical training and experience working with domestic violence, and treating trauma.
We serve adult survivors of interpersonal trauma, including sexual assault and domestic violence. Our model of care recognizes the inherent resilience and capacity for healing of all survivors, as well as the importance of providing therapy services that are strongly rooted in an understanding of domestic violence and an anti-oppressive framework.
We value providing culturally respectful, strengths-based and inclusive mental health services including clinical assessment, individual psychotherapy, assertive outreach, clinical case management, support groups and coordination of care with DV Advocates on our team.

Key responsibilities
Client-Centered, Trauma-Informed Mental Health Services - Deliverables/outcomes:
Carry an active caseload of at least 8-10 individual clients and conduct weekly psychosocial intake assessments.
Help clients assess and address their mental health needs and their psychosocials needs including case management if needed, for example accessing financial benefits, legal, immigration or housing advocacy, etc.
Provide clients with office-based, telehealth and/or community-based psychotherapy.
Address and treat the client’s experience of trauma and other priorities identified by the client, for example, common co-occuring experiences of anxiety, depression, and substance use.
Ongoing collaboration and case consultation is strongly encouraged. Process recordings of their client sessions are permitted while recording of sessions is not.
Participatory Teamwork & Responsible Representation - Deliverables/outcomes:
Participate in rigorous onboarding in order to be fully prepared, informed, and supported in providing services to clients.
Cover topics including but not limited to Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), Risk Assessment, Suicide Prevention, DV Safety Planning, Vicarious Trauma, and Starting Therapy.
Attend and meaningfully participate in all scheduled meetings as assigned, including at least one hour of clinical supervision as well as bi-weekly group supervision.
Meet all required domestic violence trainings.
Interns are encouraged to attend clinical and SS team staff meetings to better familiarize themselves with the broader program and staff.
Engage consistently in anti-racism practices and approaches with internal and external work based on a deep understanding of historical and present-day structural racism.
